Report: Putin wants military frequencies’ transfer for 5G studied

MOSCOW, Apr 5 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Security Council to explore the issue of using a 3.4–3.8 GHz frequency band, which is now exploited by military equipment, for 5G networks, business daily Vedomosti reported late Thursday on its website, citing sources.

The president’s order was voiced by Deputy Digital Development Minister Oleg Ivanov, who hopes the discussion of the matter at the Security Council would find a solution suiting both the connection industry and the armed forces.

Media reported earlier that the Defense Ministry is reluctant to transfer the mentioned frequency range to mobile operators for development of 5G networks. The range is the most convenient for 5G, and its lack could make the standard impossible for the country.
